How To Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 iPhone 4/3Gs iPod Touch 4G/3G & iPad – Redsn0w

iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak

This post shows you how to jailbreak every iPhone, iPod Touch and the first generation iPad on official release of iOS 5.0.1 using redsn0w for windows. It does not work for the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

1. Download Redsn0w:
• Redsn0w For Windows – (Download)
• Redsn0w For Mac – (Download)
• (Optional) iOS 5 IPSW get it here

2. Right click Redsn0w and set compatibility to windows XP (service pack 2) if you are on Windows 7 or Windows Vista and run as administrator.

3. Connect your iDevice to the Computer and turn it off; after you have done this run Redsn0w (If it isn’t already connected).

4. Select the “Jailbreak” option.

5. Put your iDevice into DFU mode by following these steps:

I. Hold down the power button for 3 seconds
II. Continue holding the power button and start holding the home button and continue HOLDING BOTH for 10 seconds
III. Let go of power and continue holding home button for 20 seconds (or until Sn0wbreese starts to run recognize your iDevice).

6. Next check install Cydia(if it is already checked then leave it) and all other options you want to apply and click next.

7. Wait for it to finish.

8. You are now jailbroken, may the jailbreak force be with you!

If you get an error message TOWARDS THE END of your restore you will have to use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode. Download TinyUmbrella here.

If you get iTunes 3194 error locate c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts delete any line with or check out this post for assistance.

If you get iTunes 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1609 errors, download iReb(here) and use it to put you iDevice back into a pwn DFU state. Or check out this post for assistance.

    Hi ,

I have a little confusion. I have followed your preserve baseband method to upgrade my iphone 4. I use a gevey sim. Now I have ios5.0.1 unlocked using gevey with the older baseband.
Now if I have to jailbreak do I have to again use the custom ipsw or should i just go ahead and jailbreak using latest version of redsnow. Will this upgrade my baseband?

    Please do reply.

    • Admin says:

No you can just go ahead and run the redsn0w jailbreak over it. You will only have to enter the Gevey sim steps again. After the device boots up.

I have already Jailbroken my iPhone at 4.2.8
Now I have just run the latest version of RedSn0w.
Everything looks great. I did uncheck install Cydia. The install looks like it went well. I did not receive any errors. However, when I goto Settings to check my version it says 4.2.8

I have tried to update a couple of times and it seems to work.

    Any ideas?

hey! you’ve saved my life once before when I was having trouble with my itouch 3g.
I need some of your saving knowledge once more. I have 2 iphones here at the Philippines my aunt got it from the united states they are both from AT&T 1 is iphone 3gs 5.0.1 baseband 06.15.00 SN 87939xxxxxx and the other 1 is iphone 3g 4.2.1 baseband 05.15.04 SN 87836xxxxxx… Is there a way I could unlock/use it so I could use sim cards/networks from here without using a gevey sim?

    fingers cross! thanks bro!

    • Admin says:

For the 3GS with the 06.15.00 baseband, you can use Ultrasn0w from in Cydia to unlock it. You will need to be jailbroken first. Click here for a tutorial. For the 3GS with the 05.15.04 BB, you would have to install the 06.15.00 BB and then use ultrasn0w from Cydia. Click here for a tutorial on that.

  14. Superb, valuable info. My iphone 3gs is now entirely jailbroken and i currently have a functioning Cydia symbol on the home screen. Maintain up the great work!

I have a not jailbroken iPhone 4. If I want to jailbreak it, do I lose all my contacts, messages, movies, music, apps, mail etc. ?
I hope it will not delete anything. I wait with the jailbreaking, till I’m sure nothing’ll be deleted.

    Hope for a reply.

    Kind regards,
    Daniel Booy
